New entry requirement in effect
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.
Working in Canada
If you are looking to work in Canada, you may need a permit depending on what kind of work you want to do. There are a number of different permits available to newcomers looking to work.
- To find out if you need a work permit check with the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada website.
- If you do need a work permit, you will need to apply and receive one before you begin working. If you are a permanent resident, you do not need a work permit to work, however, there may be some jobs reserved for Canadian Citizens.
- Once you are eligible to work, you may need help on how to search and apply for jobs, build your resume, access bridging programs, look for mentorship opportunities and access financial support and child care. Get help finding a job.
