How to Immigrate to Canada

New entry requirement in effect
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with valid Canadian visas. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens and Canadian permanent residents, cannot apply for an eTA.
Working in Canada
If you want to work in Canada, you may need a permit depending on what kind of work you want. There are many different permits available to newcomers looking to work.
- To find out if you need a work permit, check the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada website.
- If you need a work permit, you must apply for and receive one before you begin working. If you are a permanent resident, you don’t need a work permit, but some jobs may be reserved for Canadian Citizens.
- Once you are eligible to work, you may need help searching and applying for jobs, building your resume, accessing bridging programs, looking for mentorship opportunities and accessing financial support and child care. Get help finding a job.
